Azure

Az is a large blue roan pony who was born in 2015. He is a favorite for our clients to lease and gain experience. Az is currently showing at local schooling through A level competitions and is an experienced IEA horse.

 

Fun fact: When Az first came to us, he had only about 40 days under saddle.

Ace
High Card

Ace is a 2012 bay gelding with a calm disposition. He has a big stride for his 15 hand frame and is appropriate for most levels of rider. Ace is quickly gaining experience in the hunter show ring.​

​

Fun fact: Ace came to us from a working ranch in Texas.

Bennie
Bennie and the Jets

Bennie is a Percheron/Welsh cross who was born in 2009. Bennie loves to eat and will constantly ask you for treats. He is a barn and IEA favorite.

Fun fact: His owner bought him from an auction as a 2-year-old and has owned him ever since.

Birdy
Roadrunner

Birdy came to Colter Equestrian in 2025. A 2021 KWPN colt, he is owned by Lauren Matthies. You may notice that Birdy is our spotted treasure! He is still very green, and we are looking forward to seeing what this big boy will do.

Fun Fact: Birdy’s previous owner was calling him “Spotted Bird”, although his real name is Roadrunner.

Blue
Magnifier

Blue, or Mr. Blue as we call him, was foaled in 2011. He came to Colter as a real ‘diamond in the rough’. Blue has become a true gem both at home and in the show ring for his owners, the Rebers.

 

Fun fact: Blue is an off-the-track Thoroughbred (OTTB) who has found his calling in the hunter ring.

Charm
Reign Charm

Charm is a 2007, 16.2hh Thoroughbred mare. She has a big personality,. One of Carrie's personal horses, Carrie has spent over a decade building a special relationship with her.

 

Fun fact: In 2025, Charm placed in the top 10 in the Take 2 Thoroughbred national 3’ hunter finals and was named a Smarkpak/USEF Horse of the Year.

Dash
A Dash of Sky

Dash, who was born in 2018, is a small bay gelding. While many think he is a pony, he measures as a small horse. Contrary to his name, Dash rarely dashes and does a great job taking care of our beginner riders.

 

Fun fact: Dash is a registered Appendix.

Eppie
Final Episode

Eppie is a registered Appaloosa mare. She was born in 2016 and can be a bit sassy when the mood strikes her. Eppie has taken easily to jumping and is currently showing with our advanced beginner and intermediate riders.

 

Fun fact: Although known as the barn ‘giraffe’, Eppie is a lovely mover under saddle.

Lacey

Leather and Lacey

Born in 2013, Lacey is a bay Thoroughbred mare. Carrie found Lacey through a local rescue organization, and she was supposed to work for us as a lesson horse. That was until we discovered that she loves to jump and to jump high! Although smaller than many of her opponents, Lacey is currently showing in the 1.0 meter jumpers.

Fun fact: Lacey finished in the top 10 in the country at the Take 2 Thoroughbred National 1.0 meter jumper finals in 2025.

Luna

Skinny Love

Luna is a 2008 Thoroughbred mare. She is owned by the Hatherly family. Luna has been at Colter Equestrian since we first opened. She is an energetic and fun ride and will jump anything that is put in front of her.

Fun fact: 'Skinny Love' is named after a song.

Nemo
Nemesio

Foaled in 2018, Nemo is one of the most outgoing, friendly guys in the barn. He will reach out to you if you pass his stall and ask for a treat. Nemo is Carrie’s personal project, and we are curious to see what he becomes as he builds his hunter career.

 

Fun fact: Nemo is a Dutch warmblood who was imported from Germany.

Nova
Apricity

Nova is a 2020 Thoroughbred mare who is owned by the Heaters. She is a quick learner who loves to jump big. Nova started her show career in 2025 and has taken new venues and experiences right in stride.

 

Fun fact: Apricity means 'the warmth of the sun in winter'

Princess

Ice Queen

Princess is another rescue, and we do not know her breeding. We do know she was foaled in 2016. Although very nervous when she first arrived at Colter, she has settled in well to her new job and does a little bit of everything.

 

Fun fact: Princess loves attention, particularly neck scratches.

Rocky

Rocket Man

A 2021 colt, Rocky came to us in 2025. He is learning his new job as a hunter and has taken to jumping like a pro. Rocky is the sweetest guy there is. He is curious about everything and wants to please.

 

Fun fact: Rocky was working cattle and trail riding before he came to Colter.

Sox

Fox in Sox

A 2017 bay gelding, Sox came to us in early 2024. He is game for any new challenge he is presented with. A lovely mover, Sox has exceeded our expectations and is working on building his show record.

 

Fun fact: Sox was rescued by his previous owner as a yearling.

Sparkles

She Sparkles

Sparkles is a roan draft cross mare who is in her mid 20s. She was Carrie's first pony and came back to us with the opening of Colter Equestrian. We love having her with us as one of our school masters, teaching a whole new generation of young riders.

 

Fun fact: Sparkles was bred by the Amish to be a cart pony.

Tasc

Itasca

Tasc will be with us for a time while we see if he wants to learn to be a hunter! Tasc is a handsome, 7 year old, off-the-track Thoroughbred gelding.

Fun fact: Tasc raced 47 times, earning $140,762 over his career.

Willow

Willow's Wave

Willow is a 2015 large paint pony who is owned by the Hargett family. She is sassy and ‘larger than life’ with loads of personality. Willow is experienced in 4H and is moving smoothly into a new career as a hunter/jumper.

 

Fun fact: Willow is a Chincoteague pony who was bred in captivity.

Woody
Little Hollywood

Woody is a 2008 OTTB gelding. Previously Carrie’s show jumper, Woody is now owned by the Gilliam family. He sustained a serious injury in 2020 that required emergency surgery and extensive rehab. Thankfully, Woody is happily back in work now, showing again in jumpers with his new owner.

 

Fun Fact: Known as JoAnn’s Bullet at the track, Woody raced 21 times.

Kodiak
First Rodeo

Kodi is a 2011 model bay thoroughbred gelding. He raced early in his career and has done a little bit of everything since then, including dressage, eventing, hunters and jumpers. Owned by the Appel family, Kodiak has setted happily into his current hunter life.

Fun Fact: Kodi went away to college for a year, but got homesick and had to come back to Colter!

Cowboy

Cowboy is our very own donkey. He is quite the character. If you don't stop to pet Cowboy and give him a treat, you will hear from him!

Fun fact: Cowboy loves to show off his very long, loud and piercing bray to friends and our neighbors.

Miss Piggy

Piggy is very affectionate and comes when she is called. She loves to eat human food, but she can’t have raw potatoes or avocados. Piggy ‘talks’ a lot and twirls her tail in circles.

 

Fun fact: Piggy found her way to our farm in 2024 via a Facebook ad.

The Minis
Sky & April

Sky and April were previously therapy ponies at a riding center that Tracey managed. When that organization closed, we moved them to Malabar Farm. Broken to both ride and drive, Carrie and her friends enjoyed them for years. When it came time for Carrie to leave for college, we left ‘the girls’ at Malabar with Becky Uhl. After a decade of love and great care, the girls came back to us in 2025.

 

Fun fact: Sky and April have lived together for basically their whole lives.
